“…to know someone who thinks & feels with us, & who, though distant, is close to us in spirit, this makes the earth for us an inhabited garden.” Goethe
It’s hard not to long for connection. Connecting with one another is perhaps one of the most basic traits of human condition. Our families represent our first connection. They provide, in whatever shape, way or form, hints about ourselves, the world and how we connect with others. Today, our electronically connected lives have shifted our family dynamics.
It creates a disconnect that vanishes parents and children from each other’s presence by switching them on and off. Vanishing from the presence of people we care about, if only for a few seconds, creates micro-voids that evolve in our relationship.
Vanishing I/O speaks about these missed moments in everyday family scenes. Vanishing I/O looks at contemporary family relations intersected by technology.
