Last Friday I gave a talk about the Argentina Foro Libro at the South Florida Latin American Photography Forum – Photobook Art Lab moderated by William Riera.
The talk illustrated the evolution of the «Foto Libro,» in Argentina from historical and social perspectives to geographical and economic angles. Using the same framework as Francisco Medail’s exhibition «The photo book as an object to (re)think a country,» I selected works that exemplify these three dimensions to guide our conversation.

Misiones 1930 – Ediciones Artísticas: G. Bourquin

Frontalisimo, Facundo de Zuviria, Editorial Laviere

Temporada Fulgor – Foto Estudio Luisita, MALBA, 2021
- The photobook as a medium of political propaganda in contrast with artistic projects that used this device to reflect on the country’s political and social events.
- The Argentine territory has been represented in photobooks, highlighting the imbalance between Buenos Aires’ centralism and the rest of the provinces, as well as the essentialist attempts to portray the country as a totality
- The relationship between photobooks and other artistic disciplines, such as literature, painting, music, and photography itself
Below are some of the books I discussed in the presentation:

BUENOS AIRES, BUENOS AIRES (1968), Alicia d’Amico & Sara Facio, Editorial Sudamericana, Buenos Aires

Archivo de la Memoria Trans, 2020
The presentation page I used, with all the photos and information included in the talk, is available upon request. You can reach me through the contact page. South Florida Latin American Photography Forum was kind enough to record the talk and is also available upon request.
