Please join me next Friday, November 1st, for the gallery opening of Sunset Colonies at Books and Books, 265 Aragon Ave, Coral Gables, FL, from 7 PM to 10 PM.
Sunset Colonies is my first monograph—a seven-year project documenting the disappearance and gentrification of mobile home communities in South Florida.
Essays by scholars Amy Galpin, Louis Herns Marcelin, and Alpesh Kantilal Patel provide context for the current situation of these trailer parks. Once promising stability, affordable housing, and a comfortable retirement, these communities now face uncertain futures.
An homage to a way of life that is quickly slipping away, Sunset Colonies raises urgent questions about the invisibility of mobile communities, their histories, and their potential futures. Together, the images and essays in this book create a multilayered meditation on place, community, and dignity.
