A NEW ‘COPPERTONE GIRL’: 14 MIAMI ARTISTS SELECTED FOR GROUP SHOW THAT REVISITS ICONIC BILLBOARD

Green Space Miami asked local artists a tempting question earlier this year: What if you could reinvent an iconic symbol of Miami for the 21st century?

With this year’s annual open call, Green Space Miami aspired to raise the voices of local artists, asking them to reimagine and share their personal take on this historic and universally recognized image. Through their work we experience a glimpse of what the Coppertone sign represents to them and their community, in their voice and visual language. A “new Coppertone girl” represents the societal impact of the day and questions its significance today. The exhibition brings together the expression of Miami creatives, who will engage in programming throughout the duration of the show. The ten selected submissions each received an award of $5,000.

A group show of the artists’ works in response to the iconic Coppertone billboard will exhibit at Green Space Miami, 7200 Biscayne Blvd., Unit 1, in the Historic MiMo District from November 10, 2022, to January 14, 2023. The group show is free and open to the public Wednesday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. by appointment.
